Ever is Over All
Woman walking and smashing car windows as a nature and or flower scene is going along on the right side as a diaatribe. A police woman just passes along staring and waving at woman that breaks the windows. Woman is smiling and in a blue dress. Losts of symbolism used on disbelief on the idea. Destroys the windows with a flower called the flower poker. Very feminine in dressing. Uses a sense of play in the video. Saturation of the color and contrast of the colors. Have to embrace feminitity to a degree and to say something new.

Bill Viola
Worked for around thirty years. Has camera mostly normally one angle uses water as a common motif. influenced by budhism, islam and cristianity. Focuses work on dualism. The Reflecting Pool. Viewer becomes a part of the space in a medatitve state. Many subtle details are shown in the video. Slowly the things change where people are present in the water but not in the landscape. Man jumps and is stationary not hitting the water. Very loud and pronounced sound effects. Pool becomes still while the sound of rushing water becomes more pronounced. Appears to be a repitition of the way the water is moving in sequence. Frozen figure finally disappears as two reflected people emerge in the water but not in the land. Light in the water turns it black and then moves out of screen to restore that natural color of the pool. Nude emerges from pool and walks away. Plays with the mind of the perseption of reality and if the illusion is just that. The inwardly focused mentality of not foccusing on different things going around the person. Question of reality if this is actually occuring or if it is some inward reflection upon a person's life. This was made using analoge processes made in 1977-1979. Question the role of time in where this event occured in the movie at a specific time but how long would this take for an actual human to accomplish this such as reaching enlightenment.

Spike Lee
25th Hour released in 2003, talks about different social issues. Monte convicted drug dealer's last day before going to jail for seven years. Uses dialouge as a means to convey opinions. Subtle hints and references to other videos and references to issues. Very political movie. Doesn't act subtle to things and up front. Feel insulting everyone but still not sure what side. 9/11 imagery present a lot in the film occured after the attacks. Shows the way smaller groups effect the overal way New York City is creates. Uses fast camera movement and angles while also being slow at the same time at points. Slow motion walk of woman. Teacher like drunk girl like drunk odd. Teacher and student relationships, teacher interested in student. Kissed student lulz. Uses the idea and is questioning of patriotism.

Student Presentations #1
Emily:
Michel Gondry
Showed music video called "Too many dicks on the dance floor." A dance floor with techno music playing with just men featured. Funny. Dramatic lighting to re-enforce the character. Woman were actually in the beginning but not any time after. Fantasy realm created. Visual connection between using the same person in different costumes. Cuts occur quickly but have it as characters still the main focus. Using a shot to show what gives light sources for the viewer to accept the light source. Changing the camera view shows difference perspectives. Entrance and exiting from same side to add humor to viewer. Speeds up the movements and changes of camera towards end. Repetition throughout and a female is added in the end.
Nichole:
Paul McCarthy:
Family Tyranny made in 1987. Instructional video is first on force feeding a little boy. Then having two men one acting like a father and second as a child.
Cultural Soup instructional video also has boy and son relationships. Dialogue keeps repeating phrases and many phallic symbols. Maybe references Paul McCarthy sexual abuse as a child. Video is disturbing when saw parts of it. Talks about how learning things in our culture comes from our parents. I just see the way, well in that short clip as disturbing and not needed. Then throwing a tantrum it is interesting but not sure what it is about yes see what and understand what is trying to be said but not sure if I get it or enjoy it.

Fluxus Class Notes
Here are some notes from the lecture in class today.
-Fluxus starts in the 1960's in Black Mountain college then to NYC
-Works in sound, text, performance, and new medias
-Some artists: Dick Higgins, George Brecht, La Montes Young, Allison Knowles, and George Macunius
-Flux Kits or Multiples are art objects that would be explored or changed with time
-Idea of the artist and viewer created together
-Started at time where computer and new technologies were being developed
-Event score is a text, image or three d object and they carry out what it is in different ways
-Take something everyday and giving it significance by placing it in an artistic context
-They value the primary experience the creating more so than the enjoying the result
-Art for touching and experiencing the idea
-What you create is what you create not making something that signifies something else, does something stand just for itself
-No true silence, therefore the environmental sounds are the music
-Silent orchestras things were very interesting the sound is you you crrate it everyone expericens the performance differently
-Incorporating the whole thing into the piece is life media, what does the function of the actual piece serve as?
-Scores not necessarily as a musical idea
-Try to activate the space

The Birth of Fluxus
This article had some confusing elements to it especially if you know little about the art world in general. I felt at times that this piece would be better suited to have been read after a short introduction into some Fluxus artist and ideas since it references some already. But the first thing that I really didn't understand was the reference to Greek philosophy where you cant cross a river twice. Which I understand the idea I guess about it but still doesn't make too much sense to me. At least in my common sense way that I was reading this whole article.
I strongly disagree where it talked about how fax is transforming the way we send and receive messages the most. I say the Internet and all that encompasses does a lot more than the little fax could and does. The reference to the historical point at which Fluxus begins at the end of the Elizabethan age is perplexing since that age ended by the American and definitely the French revolution so from an actual historical perspective that is incorrect but maybe what the authors' limited knowledge of history it seems correct to them.
Even though the author makes an attempt at differentiating the difference between Dada and Fluxus I still see a lot of overlapping in the two, maybe some actual examples would help to differentiate the two. Fluxus talks about globalism, unity of art and life and inter media, experitemantalism etc. The globalism in Fluxus is slightly different then contemporary ideas of it in the sense that we all are on one Earth and nature and culture do not reflect political boundaries. Which is all good and true to an extent.
Part of the Fluxus idea is to break the rules of cultural traditions, which again is all good and dandy but why not try something harder stay in the box and do something that makes the box vibrate so much that it demands its own attention? The implying other works of art in Fluxus is something I try to do, well in any art your reference other pieces inherently in what influenced you to create something.
I would love to experience one Fluxus or multiples where they last for days on end, experiementing with time interests me a lot to a degree and I always have wanted to do something where a piece is constantly evolving and changing depending on the viewer and find those peices the most cleaver. Fluxus named itself, well if someone wanted to name their own group I feel they could if they wanted to.

A Little Scare
So I am over here in the computer lab and I opened up the final cut saved project and it could not locate my files for the single frames for my movie. Luckily I figured out have to link them and placed them with the folder that the saved project was in. Essentially I had the folder where my images were saved not in my project folder, I must have originally just imported them straight from another folder on my desktop without placing a copy in my project folder, luckily I save everything twice and in two different locates but that was really scary. Especially because I am not just tweaking some timing issues, and for all intense and purposed done.
Last Thoughts for Stop Motion Project
So here are just some last minute before I work on the final editing part of the film. I still need to work out the ending, I have the idea of it ending with the viewer being engaged to some certain degree but I am not sure how to go about doing this, however, I am confident that between the couple choices that I have all will be interesting. Well, at least to me. The mood is good in how I set up the surroundings now. I just need to set up the colors to match better in final cut, here is hoping that it works.
I placed the title after the first quarter of the clip to give difference and help guide the viewer while they are in the process of viewing the movie and to help reveal that it is a process and to separate the scenes to flow better. Least that is how I view it and a couple of other people I asked.
Note to self* my roommate is not someone good to ask about these things he has no opinion.
Continuing the automate program worked really well in photoshop much better than I thought because I honestly thought I would have to change each individual frame but luckily I did not have to. Well to continue tweaking.
